Before we begin, a quick lesson for those not well-versed in cinema: The Magnificent Seven, despite its apparent numerical sequencing, is of no relation whatsoever to the fantastic The Hateful Eight or the atrociousThe Ridiculous 6. The Magnificent Seven, of course, is a remake of the 1960 western classic of the same name. Directed by Training Day boss Antoine Fuqua, Magnificent Seven finds Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawketogether again alongside Chris Pratt, Vincent D'Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, and Peter Sarsgaard.
The first trailer finds Washington's character, Sam Chisolm, being challenged to serve up some revenge to notorious not-very-nice guy Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard). However, as in any good western, before Chisolm can make Bogue pay up his karma balance, he must first wrangle together a jovial band of gunslingers that just so happens to include Jurassic World recruit Chris Pratt and esteemed provider of Ethan Hawke-isms, Ethan Hawke.
"These guys are gunslingers, and when they walk into the room, you notice them," Fuqua toldUSA Today on Tuesday. "These are people you want to be with, or you want to protect you." Earlier this year, Fuqua dropped out of a Training Day pilot for CBS. In fact, as reported by the Wrap back in February, Fuqua was apparently forced to drop out of the pilot (which he was originally set to direct and produce) due to scheduling conflicts presented by much of what you see in the trailer above. Danny Cannon, most known for his work on Gotham, has since stepped up to take Fuqua's place.
The Magnificent Seven gunslings into theaters on Sept. 23.
