The 11 winners in their entertainment and kids' category prove something other awards shows can rarely claim: the Peabody Awards knows exactly what's up. Netflix dominated the honors, with Varietyreporting the streaming giant ultimately scored three of the prestigious awards for their critically acclaimed originals Beasts of No Nation, Marvel's Jessica Jones, and Aziz Ansari's near-perfectMaster of None.
"To say it resonates with young-adult viewers is an understatement," Peabody judges told Variety of Master of None's confirmed greatness, adding that the Netflix original is both "profound and mundane" which is probably exactly why it hits pretty much everyone right in the general heart area. As shown in our recent investigation, the upcoming second season of Master of None will most likely take us to Italy. The judges also sang the praises of Jessica Jones, applauding Krysten Ritter's performance for its ability to guide the audience to "discover the strengths and vulnerability" of the series' title character. black-ish, which recently tackled timely issues of police brutality in a refreshingly real way, was noted by Peabody for not letting its jokes "get in the way" of enlightening examinations of the realities of race in modern times.
Deutschland 83, The Leftovers, Transparent, UnREAL, Wolf Hall, Katie Morag, and Mr. Robot were also honored by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The actual awards, Variety notes, won't be gifted to their well-deserved recipients until May 21 during a ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
