Three-dozen exceptional bartenders from around the world recently traveled to San Francisco to take part in the eighth annual BACARDÍ® Legacy Global Cocktail Competition. After receiving thousands of entries from 45 countries, the team at BACARDÍ narrowed their selection pool down to 36 contenders, each of whom had spent the several months prior perfecting their very own BACARDÍ “Legacy” cocktails. In the seven years of its existence, the competition has birthed several modern classics, including last year’s winner, Le Latin, created by Franck Dedieu, which can now be found in bars across the world.

In the end, only one craft cocktail artisan could prevail, and the grand winner was the United States’ own Gn Chan (Chia-AN Chan), who won with his Piña Colada-inspired cocktail called “The Venceremos.” Made with BACARDÍ Carta Blanca, coconut liqueur, pineapple juice, cucumber juice, lime juice, and a dash of sesame oil, Venceremos is both exquisite and inspiring. After all, the word Venceremos is Spanish for “we will overcome”—a fitting mantra that mirrors Gn’s own personal struggle to overcome challenges in his life. “Right now it doesn’t feel like this is real,” Chan said of his victory, “but hopefully it will sink in by the morning.”

As his reward for winning, BACARDÍ Global will work with Chan over the next year to provide unique opportunities for both him and his drink to gain worldwide recognition. So be on the lookout for the Venceremos at some of the finest bars in the world. In the meantime, you can even try mixing it up yourself using Chan’s own recipe below. It sure does look like one delicious legacy.
