Fast 8 is officially less than a year away from thrusting itself into existence, meaning now is as good a time as any for plot speculation. With Charlize Theron confirmed as the highly anticipated sequel's main villain, what will F. Gary Gray's take on the franchise mean for Dom Toretto and company? Vin Diesel has decided to provide a generous amount of fuel for the growing number of theories, seemingly hinting at a deep dive into the Toretto family history:
"We're at a place that nobody ever thought would be possible," Diesel said via the 'gram on Wednesday. "We're in Havana, Cuba." And what might be possible with a Fast & Furious sequel going down in Cuba? Some origin story action, of course. "This is paradise," Diesel added before preparing to deliver some great theory fuel: "We're in Cuba where the Torettos started. It's Fast 8. It's Dom Toretto here, back in his homeland."
If Diesel is indeed dropping some plot hints about the franchise's planned goodbye trilogy, then exciting things are afoot for the Fast & Furious fam. In addition to shooting presumably cool things in Cuba, Fast 8 will also take F. Gary Gary and the rest of the crew to New York City. Though the instaclassic movies have already taken viewers everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Japan, Fast 8 marks the first time the franchise has landed in New York.
"We were both really excited to get back together and do it again," Gray toldCollider back in January, referencing his previous work with Diesel on the 2003 thriller A Man Apart. "We talked about all of the Fast movies up to this point and where could we go. I think he was really happy with the vision I have for the franchise and I was really about where he sees not only his character going but the franchise itself." Gray also praised J.J. Abrams work in reviving the Star Wars franchise, citing that success story as influential on his own path toward greatness for the Fast films. Fast 8, hopefully establishing Dom as this franchise's version of Luke Skywalker, cruises into theaters Apr. 14, 2017.
