Sorry, Jared Leto, you've been dethroned. Cara Delevingne's creative process is way cooler than just mailing live rats to her Suicide Squad co-stars. Delevingne, who plays beloved antihero Enchantress in David Ayer's film, opened up to W magazine Wednesday about how she got herself in theSuicide Squad frame of mind. The secret? Streaking through a random forest.
"I met the director, David Ayer, at a hotel in London on a dark and stormy night," Delevingne said. "He didn’t tell me anything about the movie. Instead, he showed me pictures of these amazing, enlightened, powerful, but very evil women. He spoke to me about addiction and mental illness, which are things I find very, very interesting." Her interest properly piqued, Delevingne came into her next meeting with Ayer with confidence.
"The next time I met David was at his house in L.A.," she said. "He asked me to read a scene from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I love that play and had acted in it at school when I was 17, so I was excited. Somehow, when we were doing the scene, I became livid. I hadn't felt rage like that in years. And then I got the part!"
Since a finished script wasn't available for immediate consumption, Ayer suggested Delevingne prepare for her take on Enchantress in a less traditional way. "David asked me to go and try and find a forest and, if it was a full moon, get naked and walk through the woods with my feet in the mud, which I did," the Paper Towns star recalled. "There wasn't a full moon, but I howled like a wolf." Your move, Jared Leto.
Suicide Squad, opening Aug. 5, has become the subject of great speculation in the wake of recent R-rated success stories. Though the first Squad is already bound to a potentially unfortunate PG-13 rating, Ayer recently revealed that he's ready to fight for an R-rated sequel. Given that the film's stars have clearly employed extreme measures to ensure the source material is honored, a Suicide Squad 2 with anything less than a hard R seems like a travesty.
