Imagine if you will, a bar without music. Just people milling about in stone cold silence. Now put your adult self back at that all-ages joint, where no matter how hype the music got, there was always something missing. It’s a no-win situation, right? When it comes to nightlife, music and beverages just go hand in hand. So it should come as no surprise that the worldviews of those who mix beats and those who mix drinks are incredibly similar.

As part of the BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition, BACARDÍ brought together notable names from the bartending and music industries for a roundtable discussion on how the two worlds intersect. On the barkeep side, they invited two bartender/proprietors at the top of the game, both of whom have been integrally involved in the BACARDÍ Global competition. These bartending maestros were Brooklyn bar owner Ivy Mix, 2015 American Bartender of the Year, and Steven Schneider, a global bar owner and 2015 Nightclub and Bar Bartender of the Year. Representing the music side were DJ/producers Walshy Fire and Jillionaire. The roundtable was hosted by Spotify’s Zach Pentel.

One of the prevailing themes of the roundtable discussion was hustle. It seems like, in all corners of the nightlife universe, a substantial amount of grit and grind is required to see a vision through. But when the end goal is a brilliant cocktail, a bumping track, and a room full of happy people, no sacrifice is too great. To hear more from the pros, watch the video above, and you can go here to learn more about the one-of-a-kind BACARDÍ Legacy Global Cocktail Competition.
