Forget Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for a minute. Get it out of your head. Ben Affleck is currently hard at work making sure the Batman legacy is righted via his own solo movie as noted bat-lover Bruce Wayne. The good news? A post-sad Affleck is promising to take the task of Afflecking the Batman universe very, very seriously. The not-so-great news? He might miss the studio's deadline because he's not quite done penning the script with DC Comics' Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns.
"I think they have a date for it," Affleck toldCollider during their recent visit to the Justice League set. "Although, I don't know if I would necessarily be able to make that date because I don't have a script that's ready yet. So that's my—my timetable is I'm not going to make a movie until there's a script that I think is good because I've been on the end of the things when you make movies when you have a script that's not good yet and it doesn't pan out." Three cheers for sweet self-awareness!
Thankfully, Affleck has no shortage of ways to convince everyone that he's definitely bringing his Oscar-winning vibes to the DC universe, regardless of things like silly deadlines. "I have a script, we're still working on it, and I'm not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, for which I have the highest of standards, I would say," Affleck said, warming hearts everywhere. "That's something that would have to pass a very high bar for me. It's not just like, 'Yeah, that might be fun, let's go try this out.'"
If none of that eases your post-Dawn of Justice concerns, simply peep Affleck's track record as a director. Gone Baby Gone? Supremely unsettling but dope. Argo? Best Picture winner. Also, dope. The Town? That one has Jon Hamm so, yeah, dope. Stop worrying and learn to love the Affleck Batman.
