The original sad boy just scored a new gig. Darth Vader, beloved Sith Lord, has been officially confirmed by Entertainment Weekly as a part of the forthcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. With any luck, the originator of the still fresh black-on-black wardrobe technique can persuade Disney to consider a less cumbersome title.

Rogue One, due Dec. 16, marks the first stand-alone entry in the Star Wars franchise. Gareth Edwards, who ensured everyone he's more than qualified for the gig with his take on Godzilla in 2014, is directing from a script by About a Boy co-writer Chris Weitz. But what does Edwards have planned for the Sith Lord? No clue, but that hasn't stopped Dark Side aficionados from expressing historic levels of stokedness upon news of his inclusion:

Meanwhile, at least one person has a slightly less optimistic idea of how Edwards' Vader might turn out:

James Earl Jones, the classic supplier of Vader's voice, was confirmed Thursday for Rogue One. EW also revealed that Vader will "loom large" during a "strategic moment" in the film, but will otherwise be popping up sparingly. In addition to that nice slice of hype, the Rogue One spread confirms that Mads Mikkelsen is playing the father of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Alan Tudyk (A Knight's Tale) will voice your new favorite droid, K-2SO:

In all seriousness though, what kind of Sith-esque shit is Vader about to pull? Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which also stars Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker, should have the answer come December. In the meantime, we'll be right here nerding out ad infinitum.
