Likely everyone you've ever met totally loved J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, unless you're one of the fortunate ones who can boast of having met Avatar director James Cameron. In an interview with Hannah Litchfield, first spotted by IndieWire, the leading Titanic tear instigator let loose some thoughts on The Force Awakens that suggest he's a way bigger fan of George Lucas' years at the helm.

Cameron is known for being a pretty forthright dude, so it's no surprise he kept it relatively real when talking of awakened forces. "George Lucas is a friend of mine and he and I were having a good conversation the other day about it," Cameron said. "I don't want to say too much about the film cause I also have a lot of respect for J.J. Abrams, and I want to see where they're taking it next, to see what they're doing with it." Fair enough. Pretty mild actually. What else you got, James?

"I have to say that I felt that George's group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you'd seen before and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters," Cameron added. "So, for me, the jury's out. I want to see where they go with it."

So George and James just casually hang out and chop it up about their own confirmed classics? Cool. Sadly, Cameron didn't really dive into more of his Star Wars discussion with George, which we can only assume included at least some chatter about Cameron's forthcoming barrage of Avatar sequels.

Maybe Cameron can hop into the Indiana Jones 5 mix to steer the ship away from the obvious shortcomings of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? That may be our only hope.
