'Tetris' will be a film trilogy because producer Larry Kasanoff says the story is "too big" for one movie.

After much speculation, it looks like that Tetris movie is actually heading to the big screen. Larry Kasanoff, who produced the Arnold Schwarzenegger thriller True Lies along with a TV documentary for Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is packing his busy schedule with not one but three Tetris films.

Despite its light source material (the game is literally matching tiles), Kasanoff says the trilogy format is applicable "purely because the story we conceived is so big." He told Empire "This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story."

A big story that will apparently fit more into the "loosely based on" category rather than an exact replica of the game. "We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie," he added, "but it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!"

Producers have already begun casting for the movie, which currently holds the title Untitled Tetris Sci-fi Project on IMDB. But don’t expect any more details on the secretive project. "We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science-fiction movie," Kasanoff said. "I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos."

And while the original game was created by Russian game designer Alexey Pajitnov, parts of the film will reportedly be shot in China.
