Your favorite show just got way more favorite-y. Kid Cudi, our generation's leading multihyphenate, has joined the cast of Empire ahead of its highly anticipated third season. The Cud god will play a rival of Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Y. Gray), Entertainment Weeklyreports.

Cudi's character, a rapper named Gram, is described by EW as "an independent musician who is a rival to Hakeem both in the studio and in life." To make matters worse for Hakeem (and better for viewers), Gram is also dating Hakeem's ex, Tiana (Serayah McNeill).

The noted moon resident is no stranger to straddling the unnecessary line between actor and musician, having previously appeared in a number of films and underrated TV gems. Cudi has appeared in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Entourage, the sadly no-longer-in-action How to Make It in America, and more. Dude also employed the charm of fast automobiles alongside Rami Malek and Aaron Paul in the 2014 Need for Speed adaptation:

Empire roars back into action Sept. 21 on FOX, promising a ton of new faces presumably just to mess with Hakeem's post-Laura blues. In addition to Cudi, Empire season 3 will also feature appearances from Taye Diggs, Birdman, French Montana, Xzibit, and more. "Thankful for the opportunity and exciting to 'bring it' with the rest of the stellar cast already in place," Xzibit wrote on Instagram last month.

According to Cudi, joining Empire is just the latest example of his promise to exclusively engage in dope shit:

Again, just doing more of whatever the fuck I want 🤘🏾

2016 is pretty much the year of the Cud, as dude is also prepping to release his sixth album Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin' at some point in the (hopefully very near) future.
