Jason Bourne isn’t afraid to use a gun to take down his enemies, but don’t ask Matt Damon to do so in real life. He’s using his words, not weapons, to aid him in fighting for the things he cares about. After appearing teary-eyed in a PSA on animal cruelty in China, he’s now speaking up about gun control in America and says we should follow Australia’s example.

"You guys did it here in one fell swoop, and I wish that could happen in my country, but it's such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly. We just can't," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The hot button issue gained new steam following the tragic events in Orlando. After a filibuster from Senator Chris Murphy, the senate shot down four measures that would make it harder for certain individuals to gain access to a firearm. Democrats then staged a sit-in in response to the lack of action from their GOP counterparts.

"People get so emotional that even when you make a suggestion about not selling AK-47s to people on terror watch lists, that's a non-starter. I don't know what needs to happen," Damon added. "Obviously mass shootings aren't going to do it. There have been so many of them at this point. Sandy Hook, when those children were murdered, if that didn't do it, you know, I just don't know. Maybe we just need to evolve further before we can have that conversation, I don't know."

He went on to praise Australia for its change in gun laws. Officials responded to a string of mass killings with the National Firearms Agreement in 1996, which heavily regulated the possession and use of firearms and which has drastically cut down on the occurrences of the shootings.

"It's wonderful what Australia did because you guys haven't had a mass shooting since you went, 'No, we're going to be sensible about this.' And nobody's rights have been infringed, you guys are fine. I wish we could be sensible like that but I don't think that's going to happen in my lifetime."

Conservative blog Breitbart naturally responded with the truest form of shade, referring to him as a "gun toting action star" calling for an "Australia-style gun ban in the U.S."
