Nate Parker's seven-year in the making directorial debut, The Birth of a Nation, which he also wrote and stars in, has yet to hit theaters, but Parker's already lined up a deal for his next directing project reportedDeadline.
The Birth of a Nation is a biopic telling the story of Nat Turner (Nate Parker) leading a slave rebellion in the South.
"For me, understanding the importance of Nat Turner has been on my soul since the moment I said 'I need to make this film,'" Parker said in behind-the-scenes footage exclusive to Complex. "Nat Turner believed that the least among us could do the greatest things."
Next for Parker is a deal he made with Legendary to write, direct, and produce an original feature film Deadline reported. The title of the film and what it will be about are still unknown. According toDeadline the film involves "creating a world."
The rights for The Birth of a Nation were bought for $17.5 million making it the highest amount paid for a film at the Sundance Film Festival.
Here's the synopsis for the critically acclaimed film: "Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities—against himself and his fellow slaves—Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom."
The Birth of a Nation premieres Oct. 7.
