Nostalgia just bagged another huge win. Double Dare, the Marc Summers-hosted gem that doused the game show format in glorious green slime, is being revived by Nickelodeon to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Summers will return for the first time in 16 years to host this fresh 2016 take on Double Dare, Entertainment Weeklyreports. However, as is usually the case with nostalgic wins, there's a catch.
"30 years later, people still stop me on the street every day and tell me playing Double Dare is the one thing they wish they could have done growing up," Summers told EW. Double Dare, Nick's longest-running game, originally aired from 1986 to 1993 before a brief resurgence in 2000 hosted by Jason Harris. For the 30th anniversary comeback, Nick is putting the retro power of the recently launched The Splat to use by invading San Diego Comic-Con July 22.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. (PST) that fateful day, Comic-Con attendees will be able to catch a live version of the game show. For those not lucky and/or connected enough to cop a Comic-Con pass, The Splat's official Facebook page will generously stream the whole thing. Human Hamster Wheel? Confirmed. Double Dare Nose? Double confirmed. Though dedicated viewers likely used no such phrase during the show's original run, we're all old enough now to say this without consequence: HELL YEAH.
In addition to practically dominating this year's Comic-Con festivities, Nickelodeon is also prepping for an entire week of Double Dare-related reminiscing via TeenNick. The vintage overload, hosted by Summers, kicks off July 25 and is set to feature classic moments from all versions of the series and exclusive coverage of the Comic-Con takeover.
We're all adults here. So can we say it again? Hell yeah.
