The Emmys were last night—did you hear? TV's biggest night isn't ever as glamorous as the Oscars, or as ratchet-ly marvelous as the VMAs, but it is fun in its own right. You can always count on very famous people patting other famous people's backs, overly impassioned speeches, and hilariously awkward silences after the host makes a bad joke (this year that was Jimmy Kimmel's honor). 

This year was defined by the utter dominance of The People v. O.J., absolute scene-stealing by the kids from Stranger Things, and guys wearing sunglasses.

Kate McKinnon Wins Emmy, Loses Mind

In a category with two Transparent stars and Veep's Anna Chlumsky, Kate McKinnon of Saturday Night Live pulled off a total upset win in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy category. (It's worth mentioning that an SNL castmember had NEVER won an Emmy for acting.) Turns out she expected it just about as much as anyone else, and really couldn't hold it together when accepting the award. It was genuine, sweet, and endearing. McKinnon's been the MVP of SNL for a few years now, so it's great to see her rewarded.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Dedicates Her Emmy to Her Late Father

While accepting the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, fighting back tears, dedicated the Emmy to her father, who died on Friday. FRIDAY. This was the realest moment of the night, and I almost missed it because tears were streaming down my face.

HOLY SHIT JEFFREY TAMBOR DID THE IMPOSSIBLE. No one shuts up the play-off music but my man Jeff was like, "Nah, for real, shut the fuck up," and they did! And then Tambor told Hollywood to hire actual trans people to play trans roles. Good moment.
