While many feel that DC Comics gave the world two bricks this year (in the form of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad), don't trip; they don't plan on slowing down their Extended Universe any time soon. They already have Wonder Woman and Justice League lined up, and a number of fans are salivating over news that Joe Manganiello has signed on to play the infamous Deathstroke in a forthcoming stand-alone Batman film, and based on a Newsweek profile on Dany Garcia better known as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's manager and production partner, it looks like Henry Cavill will be getting a new Superman film as well.
In the piece, it was mentioned that Cavill joined Garcia Companies in April, and Garcia made it clear that not only was Cavill "filming [Justice League] now," but that "he’s in development for the Superman standalone… he’s beginning to expand that world."
That standalone could be the long-rumored Man of Steel 2 movie that was reported on back in August. For those who are unaware, DC's Extended Universe kicked off with the Cavill-starring Man of Steel in 2013. The film brought in $668 million on a $225 million budget, while critics felt the movie was underwhelming overall. As of right now, there's no word on who the director will be; Zack Snyder was in the director's seat for Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, and is currently working on Justice League. Many have felt that Snyder was the reason that Man of Steel and Batman v Superman ultimately failed, so there might be a lot riding on how Justice League comes out when the question of "who directs the next Superman movie" comes up.
As of now, Warner Bros. hasn't spoken about a Man of Steel 2, and there's no official word on when this movie could hit theaters, but if it is going down, they need to be firing on all cylinders or their battle with Marvel might be over before it truly began.
