After the dumpster fire that was 2016, it looks like 2017 is throwing us a bone now that Alien: Covenant’s premiere date has been moved up. 20th Century Fox announced the date change Wednesday while unveiling a terrifying poster.
Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant will join the Alien franchise as the sequel to 2012’s Prometheus, also directed by Scott. Prometheus was the first prequel in the Alien franchise. Covenant was originally planned for an Aug. 4, 2017 release, and will now be released May 19, 2017. Spoiler alert: Michael Fassbender will reprise his Prometheus role in Covenant. Joining Fassbender in the film are Danny McBride, Katherine Waterston, and Billy Crudup.

McBride spoke to Complex about Covenant, saying, “Man, that movie is gonna be nuts. Alien and Aliens were two of my favorite horror films growing up as a kid. I don’t think there’s anything that comes close to that franchise.” Describing Covenant as a “straight horror movie” McBride said, “I’ve never been on something that intense before, with that level of visual effects and gore. I’ve also never been in a movie where people just straight up die like that.”
Set 10 years after Prometheus, Covenant’s official synopsis explains: “Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world—whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
Unfortunately, the new release date means you’ll have to wait longer in between Covenant and The Predator, out March 2, 2018—unless that gets pushed up too.
