The OG 1995 version of Jumanji is an underrated testament to the power of just letting a bunch of wild animals roam around while loosely blaming it all on a mysterious board game. But there’s one thing the Robin Williams-starring blockbuster could have used a bit more of: giant flamethrowers. Next year’s Jumanjireboot continuation will feature at least one giant flamethrower, as star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Dr. Smolder Bravestone) revealed on Instagram Tuesday.
“Our badass Jumanji FX team custom built my flamethrower so it attaches to my arm for tonight’s big action sequences,” Johnson said with the assistance of a couple flame emoji. “I steer my motorcycle with one hand become the King of Fire with the other.” This particular thrower of flames is so effective, Johnson has apparently already burned off some arm hair.
The untitled Jumanji “continuation” also stars Kevin Hart (Moose Finbarr), Karen Gillan (Ruby Roundhouse), Jack Black (Professor Shelly Oberon), and Rhys Darby (Nigel). As promised by Johnson back in August, fans of the original film don’t need to worry about the usual pitfalls of reviving a classic decades after initial impact. Jake Kasdan, the guy who was unfortunately behind the Jason Segel dud Sex Tape and awesomely responsible for a few episodes of Freaks & Geeks, is directing from a script by Scott Rosenberg, Chris McKenna, Jeff Pinkner, and Erik Sommers.
If a new Jumanji doesn’t do much for you in the way of excitement, here’s a friendly reminder that Johnson is also bringing Baywatchback. The R-rated cinematic reboot, also due next year, stars Johnson and Zac Efron alongside some mysterious cameos from original series stars Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff. Though not confirmed by the studio, rumor has it that Hasselhoff’s chest hair will also make an appearance.
