Wayne Gretzky will be lending his voice to an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. The hockey legend will become the first hockey player to voice a Simpsons character when he appears in an episode set to air next month.

In an interview with NHL.com, Simpsons showrunner Al Jean explained that the show was looking for “heroes of winter” for the December 11th episode “and there couldn’t be a bigger hockey hero than Wayne Gretzky.”

“People argue about a lot of things, but they never argue about who’s the greatest hockey player. It’s always him,” Jean said of Gretzky. “I don’t think there is anybody better at anything that Gretzky is as a hockey player. He had a lot of great stories and it was a real pleasure to meet him.”

Gretzky, known as “The Great One” in hockey circles, won four Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers before moving on to play for Los Angeles, St. Louis and the New York Ranger.

Gretzky recorded his dialogue for the episode over the summer.
