File this under the strangest beef of 2016. After Facebook mastermind, Mark Zuckerberg, created his very own AI butler, the billionaire decided to showcase the futuristic tech in a demo video. The new software proved successful in conducting a bunch of impressive tasks, like setting up meetings and entertaining babies, and was even equipped with Morgan Freeman's iconic baritone voice. The demonstration seemed pretty cutesy and extra harmless for most of us viewing, but Canadian singer, Avril Lavigne, of all people, wasn't such a fan. Did you figure out Lavigne's problem with the video? No, it wasn't the fact that Mark Zuckerberg eats toast without anything on it like some kind of monster, that's just my issue with the demo. It was actually the slight against famous punching bag rock group, Nickelback. When Mark politely inquires about playing some music from the Albertan band, his AI quickly shuts him down. Apparently, that response was a little too offensive for the "Sk8er Boi" singer. Avril, who was once married to Nickelback frontman, Chad Kroeger, took to her twitter account to defend her ex.
While we certainly weren't as offended as Lavigne, we sort of see her point. If we're being honest, the Nickelback joke is getting pretty old and that much she gets right. Plus, 2016 has had enough negative energy to last us a long time. We could tone down on the bullying for sure, regardless of the quality of Nickelback's music. Avril Lavigne: 1, Zuckerberg: 0 - although the dude kind of wins in the end, given the fact that he has an amazing AI system in his house.
