Did the 'Cloverfield' Sequel 'God Particle' Get Pushed Back to Fall 2017?

It looks like 'God Particle,' aka the next 'Cloverfield' film, has been removed from a release schedule.

Earlier this year, J.J. Abrams surprised us all with the release of 10 Cloverfield Lane, a non-sequel continuation of the series that established that the world of 2008's Cloverfield was much larger than we first imagined. Another film, God Particle, was revealed to actually be the third film of this Cloverfield universe, and was due out in February of 2017...was being the operative word.

Today, it's being reported that God Particle has been completely removed from Paramount's upcoming schedule. Don't trip, fellow Cloverfield stans: curiously, "2017 Cloverfield Movie," which is specifically stated to be presented in IMAX, was added to Paramount's 2017 schedule, with a release date of October 27, 2017. What does any of this mean, though? It's tough to say.

God Particle, which starred the likes of Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, and others, was set to revolve around a group of astronauts fighting for survival after a deadly discovery is made. While there wasn't much in the way of concrete info regarding how this film connects to the Cloverfield universe (something that even Gugu couldn't explain), one has to imagine that this discovery might have something to do with the beings that appear on (and terrorize) the Earth, right? Either way, it'd be wild to think that a film featuring Gugu and Oyelowo would somehow just disappear off the face of the Earth...right?

Whatever the case may be, Cloverfield fans should be excited for a new installment coming later in the year than they expected. It'd make sense that this God Particle film would have just shifted into whatever this currently-untitled Cloverfield 2017 project is, or would be incorporated into a larger piece of the Cloverfield puzzle in whatever this Fall 2017 film is.

For those keeping score, there were previously plans to drop one Cloverfield film every year, so maybe God Particle is still happening, just not at this time. As of the time of this writing, neither J.J. Abrams or his Bad Robot production company have released a statement on this development.
