Matthew McConaughey managed to make it through an entire two-minute discussion without making a single mention of True Detective Thursday, a profound feat by any measurement. Chatting with Seth Meyers about that one time he rocked a fake Australian accent for an entire year, McConaughey seemed to have (briefly?) put season 3 fears to rest.

"No Australian accent," McConaughey said on Thursday's Late Night when asked why the hell his Sing character noticeably lacks an accent. "I got asked that. I did a lot of Australian press for this thing. And they're like, 'Well the koala is Australian, and you lived over here for a year, why didn't you do an Australian accent?' And I was like, 'No, that would be a little too literal.' I decided not to."

McConaughey did, however, rock the accent after spending a year in Australia between high school and college. "Damn right," he admitted Thursday. "The ladies kinda were [into it], which is why I was doing it… There's a lot of my fraternity brothers out there going, 'You son of a bitch, you did fake that for a year!' Yeah, I did."

Anyway, about this whole True Detective thing. Just last week, dude was out here once again stabbing the hornet's nest. "I've talked to the creator Nic Pizzolatto who's taking a little break from it," McConaughey said on a recent episode of the Rich Eisen Show. "But again, if that thing was written well and it came up again, I wouldn't hesitate for a second."
