What would 2016 have been without a slew of Pokémon Go headlines? Seriously. Niantic's free-to-play augmented reality game was not only doing big numbers immediately upon launching in July, but it also garnered a ton of attention thanks to people walking off cliffs and casually getting (reportedly) stabbed while playing it. Now, to make sure you haven't forgotten about Pokémon Go entirely since deleting it from your phone months ago, Niantic is launching new Pokémon and a holiday-themed Pikachu:

"Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs!" the Pokémon GO team announced Monday. "Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months."

The mood among fans following this latest update, which has been rumored for months, was initially not great:

@NianticLabs hire people from the #PokemonGO community who know what they are doing, it will save you from disappointing updates like this.

When a majority of players have been hoarding specific gen 2 candies for months now a slow dribble of new #PokemonGO mons in eggs is... dumb
