Some have guessed the North American haul for Rogue One's opening weekend would fall somewhere between $135 million and $150 million, though Disney's own prediction falls a bit short of that. The studio, THRsays, is shooting for something between $120 million and $150 million. With overseas numbers in the range of $130 million and $150 million expected when Gareth Edwards' film opens later this week, a $300 million debut seems hella likely.

The first batch of Rogue One reviews have finally started rolling in, reaching an early consensus that this movie is pretty fucking good. Box office confidence and critics' approval also bodes well for the franchise at large. As noted dog with a blog Ian Servantes declared Tuesday, Rogue One is quite possibly the "most important movie" for the whole damn franchise:

"Fair or not, Gareth Edwards' Rogue One will determine the expectations for the next two Star Wars anthology films and whatever additions will likely follow."

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, and Forest Whitaker. It opens Dec. 16, a.k.a. this Friday. Go see it, unless you're one of the no-fun-having lames planning some dumbass boycott.
