Mary Tyler Moore, star of the classic 'Mary Tyler Moore Show,' is dead at the age of 80.

TV icon Mary Tyler Moore is dead at the age of 80. Moore died in a Connecticut hospital Wednesday while surrounded by family, TMZreported. "Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine," a rep for Moore confirmed in a statement to Page Six. "A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile."

Moore first became a household name with her role as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show, which ran from 1961 to 1966. The classic CBS sitcom was followed four years later with The Mary Tyler Moore Show, another classic that would go on to hold an Emmys record for decades until Frasier narrowly beat it in 2002. A 7-time Emmy winner, Moore was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1986. She also bagged an Oscar nomination in 1980 for her role in Ordinary People:
