You never need an excuse to party in Montreal, but we’d say that turning 375 years old warrants a huge celebration. 2017 marks that milestone for Canada’s Sin City and now with its birthday year is officially underway, Montreal is kicking things off in the most Canadian way possible: with an apology. Like any good neighbour would, Montreal is apologizing in advance to its neighbours—and namely the city of Toronto—for the noise that their year-long party will be causing.

A new digital video campaign follows three Montrealers who visit Toronto armed with hearing protection and excessive apologies. They hit up some recognizable locations throughout the city, including the Yonge Street and the Yonge-Dundas intersection, to spread the word. That’s not all they brought however, as they also surprised a number of lucky of Torontonians with round trip airfare to come and join in on the fête themselves.

Tourisme Montreal will be visiting other cities and extending the invite as well, with activations planned in Ottawa and even south of the border in New York City. An upcoming video is rumored to feature William Shatner—who was born and raised in Montreal—as he spreads the word about his hometown around the Big Apple.
