This past summer, it was revealed that Netflix was launching a new screen adaptation of the beloved children's classic, Anne of Green Gables. Simply titled, Anne, the series was a joint deal between the streaming giant and the CBC, who get first dibs on its screen debut later this year. Not only did this bit of news create plenty of excitement for nostalgia buffs, but it was also a seemingly perfect fit for the property. Those wise to Canadiana may remember that the public broadcaster has been home to multiple Anne of Green Gables reboots over the years, including the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning 1985 series of the same name.

Not much was revealed of the new reboot when it was first announced back in August. One thing that was mentioned, however, was the very intriguing fact that Anne will be helmed by Breaking Bad scribe, Moira Walley-Beckett. The same writer was responsible for now infamous and amazing episode, "Ozymandias". Just how much grit and darkness will percolate into Anne remains to be seen, but we're going to go out on a limb and say "not much".

Earlier this week, we were finally blessed with some substantial tidbits all the way from Green Gables. Netflix has released the first teaser for the project, and have made known the date of its streaming premiere. Every episode of the series will be ready to binge on May 12. If you can't wait that long and live in Canada, you can catch the television screening on March 19. Check out the trailer for Anne above, via YouTube, but don't blame us if it makes you book a trip to Prince Edward Island.
