Musical fans in the 6 are in for some pretty exciting news today. With the recent finale of Matilda still fresh in the minds of Torontonians, many wondered what production would dominate Mirvish theatres next. Well, it looks as though everyone is getting their answer, and oh boy is it a good one. Earlier this afternoon, it was confirmed that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash hit, Hamilton, will be heading to the Ontario capital as part of Mirvish productions 2019-2020 subscription package. Penned by the Complex cover star himself, the Tony award-winning and pop culture phenomenon will grace the stage for limited engagement before it moves on and tours the rest of North America.

Details regarding the exact date and venue for the production are still under wraps, but according to Mirvish’s official press release, more information will be revealed very soon. If you’ve been living under a rock and still have no idea what the Broadway hit is all about, Hamilton tells the story of one of America’s founding fathers: the titular Alexander Hamilton. Of course, what really makes the play incredible is the story and score composed by the aforementioned Lin-Manuel Miranda. The musical made Miranda a household name, and along with Disney’s Moana, catapulted the scribe to superstardom.

As for Hamilton itself, David Mirvish gave the lowdown on what makes the play (and music) so special. “Hamilton is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation's first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton is the story of America then, as told by America now. With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire.”
