Pete Davidson on the red carpet.

Pete Davidson hasn’t made many appearances on Saturday Night Live recently. He’s also been noticeably absent from social media. But on Monday night, he revealed that there’s actually a good reason for it—a really good reason.

Davidson reemerged on Instagram to tell his fans that he has spent time quitting drugs and getting himself sober. The 23-year-old didn’t get into any specifics with regards to how he went about ending his drug use. But Davidson—who has talked frequently in the past about using marijuana to combat his Crohn’s disease—checked in just to let everyone know that he’s doing fine at the moment in spite of his absence from SNL.

"Just wanted to let you guys know I’m okay," he wrote. "I know I’ve kinda been missing, on social media and on the show. I quit drugs and am happy and sober for the first time in 8 years. It wasn’t easy, but I got a great girl, great friends, and I consider myself a lucky man."

And that wasn’t all Davidson posted. The SNL star, who has appeared on the show since 2014, also shared an Instagram post dedicated to his girlfriend Cazzie David, the daughter of Larry David.

It was surprising to see Davidson fall off the scene at the beginning of 2017 after finishing 2016 strong. Outside of dragging his hometown and giving major props to Kid Cudi during enlightening interviews elsewhere, Davidson also sat down with Complex back in October 2016 to talk about how great things were going in his career. We look forward to seeing him get back to doing what he does best in the near future.
