Stephen Colbert, in response to Kellyanne Conway's roundly mocked spying microwave comments, decided to test this theory out himself on Monday's Late Show by sending a message out to former POTUS Barack Obama via his microwave.
"Trump adviser and stepmom who is trying to replace your mother, Kellyanne Conway, explained yesterday that just because there's no evidence that his phone was wiretapped doesn't mean Trump is wrong," Colbert said before playing back Conway's microwave suggestion:
With a friendly ding, Colbert was briefly interrupted during his monologue by his freshly prepared Hot Pocket. As he gleefully consumed the mid-show snack, Colbert leaned into the device to send Obama a touching message. "By the way, President Obama, I miss you," Colbert said before attempting to crawl inside the microwave and escape Trumpland.
Amid uproar from microwave enthusiasts, Conway has repeatedly defended her comments by claiming she was speaking "generally" in response to the Bergen Record's very specific question about evidence-free claims of Trump Tower wiretapping. Sean "Period" Spicer, alleged White House press secretary, added his own spin to the comments Monday. Spicer claimed to reporters that Trump wasn't talking about wiretapping, despite the fact that he literally used that word himself. "The president used the word wiretaps in quotes to mean, broadly, surveillance and other activities," Spicer said Monday, according toCNN.
