At some point Friday night, while the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors kept Twitter abuzz with a record-setting Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Amber Rose was drawing attention away from a game that had already become out of reach for the heavily favored Warriors. Rose posted a picture of herself, sans pants (or underwear for that matter) with the caption, “#Amberroseslutwalk.”
It wasn’t the first time Rose has used provocative imagery to promote awareness, and as the caption suggests, Rose was referencing her upcoming third annual Amber Rose SlutWalk Festival, which is scheduled for Oct. 1, 2017 in Los Angeles.
Instagram has since removed the photo, but you can view an edited version above. An unedited version of the NSFW pic is still up on Twitter. In the meantime, she’s also responded to Instagram’s removal of her photo.
“When IG deletes ur fire ass feminist post but you really don’t give a fuck because everyone picked it up already,” Rose wrote in a subsequent selfie post, which used the hastags #amberroseslutwalk and #bringbackthebush.
Rose initiated the SlutWalk in 2015, and the practice had already picked up steam as a means to bring awareness to issues such as victim blaming, reproductive rights, and what is commonly referred to as “slut-shaming.” The practice of SlutWalks is largely credited to Heather Jarvis and Sonya JF Barnett after a police officer at Toronto’s York University told women to avoid dressing like sluts to curb sexual assault incidents in 2011.
“I thought, ‘This is almost everything that I’ve ever been through or deal with every single day,” Rose told Lauren Nostro in a 2015 Complex profile leading up to Rose’s inaugural SlutWalk. “I should have my own SlutWalk.”
Rose and the SlutWalk Festival’s organizers have described the upcoming gathering as “a zero-tolerance event, and we do not condone hateful language, racism, sexism, ableism, fat-shaming, transphobia, or any other bigotry.”
