‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Projected to Rake in $125 Million in Opening Weekend

The amazing numbers for 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' put the film in good company.

Deadline reports that Spider-Man: Homecoming is projected to pull in a three-day total between $125 and $127 million, which would make it Sony's second-best domestic opening ever. This latest projection would also exceed the film studio's estimation of $120 million.

The unexpected rise in figures is due to the movie's opening day numbers, Thursday night showings included, which stand somewhere between $51.2 to $51.5 million, a larger haul than Friday's original estimate of $48 to $49 million.

Regardless of how the final three-day numbers shake out, Homecoming will still fall short of eclipsing the $151 million opening of Spider-Man 3. However, the reboot will more than likely cruise past 2002's Spider-Man which opened with nearly $115 million.

In its opening weekend alone, Homecoming reached another milestone, becoming the fourth film in 2017 to go over the $100 million mark, joining Beauty and the Beast and fellow superhero flicks Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 2 and Wonder Woman.

While Homecoming is off to an encouraging start, the reboot has a long way to go to contend with the final numbers put up by the other movies in the Spider-Man franchise. Each film has grossed over $700 million worldwide. As positive reviews for the film keeping pouring in, including from Complex's own Anslem Samuel Rocque, who praises Homecoming for the way it "perfectly captures teen angst and reimagines many of the characters in a way that feels fresh, new, and authentic," the film will surely continue to rake in a significant amount of money.
