The former president and CEO of Vibram USA, Tony Post, is looking to dip his feet back into the world of running shoes. Topo Athletic officially debuts next month, thanks to $5 million worth of funding from Northwest Venture Partners (NVP).

Post's mission statement is to develop products that improve the body's natural abilities, as opposed to modifying them. Vibram was responsible for introducing the FiveFingers model, which subsequently launched a minimal/barefoot shoe frenzy. All of the top brands began to follow suit, and barefoot running has become one of the most popular and biggest earning areas in footwear, bringing in $1.5 billion this year alone.

If Post's history of breaking ground in the athletic world holds true, it's safe to say that major things can be expected from Topo when they officially debut at the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 23.

"We approach product design with humble innovation -- we're not arrogant enough to think that our products will change an athlete's performance," Post said. "Only his or her drive to succeed can do that. Our role is to help them get there."
