Washington Kastles

You may know who the Washington Kastles are, but the time has come to educate yourself.

Sure, tennis gets all of its glamour and glory as an individual sport first, but if you grew up playing the game, then you know damn well it’s just as much a team sport. Now getting back to the Kastles—they’re a professional tennis team hailing from D.C. that’s part of the World TeamTennis Pro League—the same league former pro Andy Roddick now plays in. In fact, the Kastles aren’t just any ordinary team, they happen to be the best in the sport, as evident by their current 32-game winning streak (the second longest in any pro sport).

When the 2013 season kicks off on July 8, the Kastles have the potential to continue their incredible winning streak as they look to tie the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers’ with 33 consecutive wins. And yes, that legendary Lakers team did put up their streak in a single season. But to be fair, there are a lot more games in a NBA season than there are in the World TeamTennis Pro League—so you have to give them props. In honor of the unprecedented streak, the team will hit the courts this summer in Nike iD versions of the Zoom Vapor 9 Tour tennis sneakers, complete with “3XWTT” and “Champs.” The custom shoes also pay tribute to the Kastles’ hometown with “DC” printed on the midsole.
