Many great boxers have come out of the state of Michigan and more specifically, the city of Detroit. The folks over at Burn Rubber decided to honor some of Detroit's rich boxing heritage through their forthcoming collaboration with New Balance. Utilizing the silhouette of the 577, Burn Rubber tells the story of Detroit’s most legendary boxer, Joe Louis.

The Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 “Joe Louis” is inspired by the great man himself. The shoe has a leather upper in navy blue and brown, as a white midsole is finished off with a gum outsole. The shoe is presented in a violin case which further tells the story of this boxing legend: When Joe was little, his mom sacrificed the little that she had to have her son become a violinist. A close friend of his then introduced him to the world of boxing. According to legend, he hid his boxing gloves in his violin case so he wouldn’t upset his mother, knowing that she wouldn't have approved. The decision changed not only his life for him and his family, but for the city of Detroit as well.

The Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 “Joe Louis” drops this Saturday, November 16at 12 a.m. EST at Burn Rubber.
