With baseball season right around the corner, Minor League teams are starting to trot out their infamous wacky promotional alternate jerseys for the upcoming season. Among the themes we have seen so far are Ninja Turtles and selfies and now we get hieroglyphics.
As a salute to Memphis, Egypt, the St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate Memphis Redbirds will don these Egyptian-inspired jerseys on June 7 for their game against the Nashville Sounds. The gimmick is apparently a celebration of the ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch, which shares the same name as the Tennessee city. In true minor league fashion, a fireworks display will follow the game.
