After Los Angeles Clippers' owner Donald Sterling received a lifetime ban from the NBA this week for making racially-charged comments, the next step in the process would be for the NBA and other team owners to force Sterling to sell his team. Just hours after the ruling, many high-profile moguls and celebs expressed interest in purchasing the Clippers including Rick Ross, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Oprah.

Emerging as another candidate is Los Angeles-based footwear company Skechers. The company has stated that it is considering bringing together an investment group to purchase a stake in the Clippers. Skechers believes owning part of the Clippers would be appropriate considering its L.A. roots and the synergies between the two organizations.

In a statement, Skechers CEO Robert Greenberg said, “With numerous accolades for [our] performance division, Skechers has become a serious player in the athletic performance footwear market globally. Like Skechers, the Clippers are a great Los Angeles brand with a loyal following and recognition that extends way beyond Southern California.”
