PONY has seen a nice resurgence the last couple of months with awesome collaborations from JackThreads and Ronnie Fieg. For its next project, it enlists none other than American fashion designer Mark McNairy, who happens to be the perfect choice when it comes to repping New York to the fullest.

The upcoming collaboration uses PONY's signature Topstar silhouette that first hit the scene in the '70s as a minimal leather sneaker for the hardwood. The two-sneaker offering features a low-profile version of the Topstar in a neutral color scheme that's highlighted by a black calf hair upper. Its counterpart in the collaboration is a high-top, which goes for a much more daring vibe with its cow-print design.

For McNairy, the decision to go with pony hair uppers on this project was obvious. "The collaboration talks started a few years ago, but some of the early designs never happened," McNairy said. "At the time, when I was approached, I was very into pony hair. It was like, 'Duh. PONY and pony hair.' It was my first idea."

Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 14, and watch for the sneakers to release through Opening Ceremony and PONY's online store.
