Custom sneakers are a polarizing topic to say the least. While some collectors consider these works of art, there are others who subscribe to the attitude that modified shoes aren't authentic. Remember Marcus Jordan's Tweets about customs in 2013?

Sole Collector tackled the issue by sitting down with some of the world's most renowned sneaker customizers. Dank, JBF, Mache, Dee-Nyce, and Soles By Sir all joined the panel and shared their thoughts on the topic, as well as the current state of customs. Dank compares his custom sneakers to tricked out cars, a sentiment echoed by his peers. "I say, 'So when you buy a car and customize it by throwing some rims and a flame paint job on it, and a new stereo, and air cleaner in it, that makes it fake?' I don’t think so," Dank argues.

It's a valid point, although the issue is further compounded by the fact that counterfeit factories are becoming privy to the custom trend. "We even have a company in China called 'Remade' who makes fake Jordans with real snakeskin and advertises them on Instagram as reconstructed kicks when they are not. They are just fakes," explained Dee-Nyce.

Head over to Sole Collector now to get the full rundown on everything they talked about.
