Earlier this week retired NBA and now Chinese Basketball Association player Stephon Marbury took to Instagram to announce the resurrection of his Starbury sneaker line. The main goal of his brand was to provide people with extremely affordable sneakers, compared to major sportswear companies such as Nike and Jordan. While his on-going effort is commendable by many, most sneakerheads wouldn't be caught in a pair simply because of the way they look.

He then took to Twitter to speak about his sneakers compared to competitors, claiming that $200 Nikes and Jordans are made for $5 in the same factories his sneakers are made in. With prices steadily increasing, sneakers are becoming less affordable to the average consumer, regardless of quality.

Home boy your paying 200 for Jordan's and they make them for 5 dollars. The shoes are made in China in the same places. Stay calm we coming!

@RACTVSHIFT who compared it? My dude no one can compete with NIKE or Jordan's but when U know the cost you know the margins. Price not tech

Marbury is confident in the success of Starbury, so it will be interesting to see if the brand can make a resurgence the second time around.

@acohn12 why not? Made in the same place where Jordan's are made.
