As Nike prepares to launch the Doernbecher Freestyle 2015 Collection this weekend, designers Tinker Hatfield and Mark Smith whipped up a little something extra for charity in the form of the "DB Dozen" Jordan XIIs.

To help us better understand how the charitable sneakers materialized, Nice Kicks caught up with Hatfield for a brief rundown of some of the sneaker's finer points.

"Leave it to Mark Smith to go through all of those files and find really colorful and interesting early design sketches. And [to] come up with the idea of using a high-tech printer and then projecting onto the shoe and printing those drawing that were actually the precursors to the shoes themselves. I think it's a brilliant idea," Hatfield said.
