With all the buzz around heritage adidas silhouettes like the Superstar and Stan Smith these days, it can be easy to overlook just how varied the brand's archives actually are. That's exactly why this modernized take on the Spezial model arrives at just the right time, serving as a reminder of the Three Stripes' deep legacy.
Known as the adidas Very Spezial Primeknit, this latest knit-based release is an evolved version of the Spezial from 1979. Originally purposed as an indoor handball shoe, the Spezial sneaker — not to be confused with the Gary Aspden-helmed Spezial franchise — went on to gain a cult-like following amongst stylish 'heads in Europe and abroad. Now, for 2015, it's losing its original suede build for a breezy Primeknit upper.
Aside from the construction, the Very Spezial Primeknit is about as close to its O.G. counterpart as one could hope for. The textured gum sole, two-tone Three Stripes, and classic colorways are all here, but they're lighter and more comfortable than ever thanks to Primeknit.
According to Sneakers.fr, these two Very Spezial Primeknit colorways are on schedule for April 2016 with an expected price of €125 ($137) apiece.
