Michael Jordan spent the better part of his summer in court, taking on twosupermarket chains for using his likeness in advertisements. In the end, His Airness walked away with millions in settlement payouts, but it's what he's doing with the cash that may surprise you.

After announcing plans to donate the proceeds from charity following his $8.9 million win over Dominick's in August, Jordan followed through on Tuesday by making sizable donations to 23 Chicago non-profit organizations.

"The 23 charities I've chosen to make donations to all support the health, education and well-being of the kids of Chicago. Chicago has given me so much and I want to give back to its kids — the city's future," Jordan said in a statement.

Sources told Chicago Tribune that despite Jordan's substantial attorney fees from the six-year legal battle, there were still millions of dollars left over, all of which will be donated.

The 23 charities that were selected to receive the donations are listed below.

Chicago Scholars, Chicago Youth Programs, Children's Literacy Initiative, Christopher House, Common Threads, Erikson Institute, Gary Comer Youth Center, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund — Illinois, KEEN Chicago, La Casa Norte, La Rabida Children's Hospital, Make-A-Wish Illinois, New Moms, New Teacher Center, The Ounce of Prevention Fund, Project Exploration, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Sinai Health System, SOS Children's Villages Illinois and Tutoring Chicago.
