Nike Celebrates The LGBT Community With 2017 BETRUE Collection

Nike is back with its annual collection inspired by the LGBT community, titled the 'BETRUE' collection. Since 2013, Nike has released a range of apparel and footwear every summer that celebrates diversity within sports.

Since its inception, Nike has encouraged athletes to be their true selves and has made headlines by championing the belief that diversity is key in creating better communities and fostering innovation and growth.

The latest offerings feature prominent symbols of pride that we've seen in Nike's previous Pride-inspired collections: the rainbow flag and the pink triangle. This year the colourful imagery, along with the BETRUE logo, is emblazoned on dri-fit tees and tanks, and even on cushioned running socks.

The 2017 BETRUE footwear collection includes the new Air VaporMax, Air Zoom Pegasus 34, Cortez and Flyknit Racer. Like the apparel collection, each style has been updated with rainbow details and colours in celebration of Pride month.

The Air VaporMax is arguably the boldest of the bunch. The in-your-face sneaker features a dark violet Flyknit upper and a first-of-its-kind multicolour Air bag, which uses a new dyeing process to achieve its Boomerang-worthy colour-shifting look.

Next up? The Air Zoom Pegasus 34 takes inspiration from unicorns with a sexy platinum upper, and pink Flywire accents.

The Cortez model, the only retro style in the 2017 BETRUE collection, features a white upper and a rainbow ribbon that runs along the tongue of the sneaker.

Finally, the Flyknit Racer makes use of vacuum-printed sublimation for vivid, in-your-face colours on what Nike says is the first-ever eight-colour rainbow Swoosh.

Nike’s 2017 BETRUE collection will be available beginning June 1 from nike.com and select Nike retailers. As with previous collections, Nike will donate a portion of BETRUE sales to organizations empowering sports in the LGBT community.
