It was set. It was going to be one of the biggest days in Los Angeles sports history. A three-way blockbuster trade would have sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, Pau Gasol to the Houston Rockets, and Lamar Odom to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets were also said to receive Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, and a first-round pick.

Commissioner David Stern intervened and stopped the trade when a group of NBA owners heavily protested the trade, complaining that the whole purpose of the new CBA agreements was to set the league up for better competitive balance. Stunned by the fallout, Paul simply said, "WoW" on Twitter. As Odom also pointed out on his account, what are these guys supposed to do now? For the time being, they'll report back to the teams that tried to ship them off for opening day of training camp on Friday.
