The Jets had a busy day yesterday. First, they traded for Tim Tebow. Then, due to a snag in his contract, they didn't trade for Tebow. Then, they spent the entire afternoon trying to figure out a way to trade for Tebow again. Finally, they figured out a way to do it and traded for Tebow a second time. And, just for good measure, they also had someone use their Twitter account to try and talk some sense into Drew Brees after he sent out a tweet indicating his frustration with the news that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was suspending Saints head coach Sean Payton for one whole year for his role in the team's bounty program. Wait...what?
That's right. Yesterday afternoon, Brees jumped on Twitter to express his displeasure with the suspension the Commish handed down. "I am speechless," Brees tweeted. "Sean Payton is a great man, coach, and mentor. The best there is. I need to hear an explanation for this punishment."
Strangely, that explanation came from the Jets. "@drewbrees Know you're frustrated," someone wrote from the official @nyjets account late last night, "but if he had admitted instead of trying to cover it up, maybe only Williams gets a suspended."
Er, is that you, Rex Ryan?!?
There's really no way of knowing who decided to @ Drew Brees to offer up an explanation of behalf of the Jets. But within an hour, the tweet disappeared and the Jets offered up this tweet explaining what had happened on their end.
At 11:21pm on 3/21 an unauthorized tweet was sent from @nyjets. This is not the view of the New York Jets. We are looking into this matter.
Yep. In the wee hours of the morning last night, someone with the Jets was still busy trying to resolve a strange Twitter situation between the team and Drew Brees. All in a day's work!
