There's no painless way to say this, so we're just going to hope you already ate your breakfast and come right out and say it: Formula One driver Maria de Villota doesn't have a right eye anymore as the result of a crash that took place during a test run for the British Grand Prix in England earlier this week.

During the test run, which took place at the Duxford Airfield in London, de Villota crashed her MR-01 car into the back of a transport truck after the car suddenly accelerated on her. And, the resulting injuries to her head and face were devastating, to say the least.

"We are grateful for the medical attention that Maria has been receiving and her family would like to thank the Neurological and Plastics surgical teams," a spokesman said on behalf of her yesterday. "However, it is with great sadness that I must report that, due to the injuries she sustained, Maria has lost her right eye."

Ouch. What else can we say?
