Mini has said before that it's considering letting the USA get in on the diesel Mini action, but the company is worried that a diesel option won't attract new buyers. We think it would. There's a big market for alternative powertrains, and there are a lot of people out there who are simply looking at whatever can be had as a hybrid or diesel.
If the company can offer an attractive car (the Mini Cooper) with 50+ mpg, people who would have otherwise bought a Prius or VW Golf TDI will find themselves in Mini showrooms.
