During the 2012 MLB season, the Red Sox did nothing but break the hearts of all their loyal followers. But, earlier this week, at least a few of their fans were rewarded for sticking with their team.

Eleven different people are scheduled to split a $100,000 lottery jackpot in Massachusetts after winning the "Mass Cash" drawing this week by using the retired jersey numbers of former Red Sox greats. The winning numbers—1, 4, 6, 8, and 9—were the same numbers worn by Bobby Doerr, Joe Cronin, Johnny Pesky, Carl Yastrzemski, and Ted Williams, respectively. And, while a few of the winners did not make their number selections based on the retired jerseys, the majority of them admitted that the jersey numbers played a big role in the numbers they decided to play.

"People usually pick numbers that are dear to them," a lottery spokesman said. "This is the first time we've ever heard of something this unique."

Pretty cool. Hey, at least someone is winning something in Boston now, right?
