The New Orleans Saints gave Sean Payton a contract extension through 2015 last September. That contract has now been voided. Payton and the NFL have been trying to resolve some language in the contract that would allow the Saints coach to walk if GM Mickey Loomis were to leave, be suspended or be fired while dealing with the coach's one year suspension. Roger Goodell and his cohorts feel like that type of language would set a bad precedent for future head coaching contracts. Sean Payton will now be a free agent at the end of the season.

This move seems kind of odd and stinks of revenge for some of the Bountygate suspensions being overturned. The New Orleans Saints have struggled mightily without Payton on the sidelines and are 2-5. Their problems have magnified Payton's worth and he's sure to be the most sought after coach next offseason.
